Over the weekend I had the opportunity to visit the South Lake Union area of downtown Seattle. And it wasn’t just to witness the spectacular light show put on at Gas Works Park, it was to check out some of the explosion happening on the opposite side of the lake.
Amazon’s “Biospheres” are taking shape (quite literally) and are set to open in 2018. The plan is to create a work environment that reconnects employees with nature, increases productivity and acts as a host for over 300 different species of plants from around the world. The finished product is even supposed to feature hammocks in trees that resemble bird nests for project collaboration—which has left all of us at SFG demanding our beehive inspired conference room to arrive ASAP!
However, Amazon’s work/play/live approach to their office locations and designs have seemed to work very well for them in recent years, attracting young talented individuals from all over the world. It is definitely something to keep an eye on during the next few years for how Seattle shapes around Amazon…or Amazon around it.
